Life and Business Leadership Insight - August 03
In this issue:
"It's Never too Late to Learn.... About Anything!"
Perhaps there are only three things that limit a person's ability to learn and extend both their intellect and self-esteem.
First of all, a person must have the desire to learn and as a result value the process of learning. Second, a person must have access to material that will enhance their knowledge. And finally, a person must make the time available to pursue knowledge in all its forms.
For the purpose of the argument let's assume that the majority of people have access to some form of knowledge source...books, newspapers, magazines and the like. Let's also assume that each person has the right to decide how they use their time in most situations.
It then really boils down to the intensity of desire to indulge in the activity, the quality of the activity and the amount of time you allocate to pursuing it.
When you come to think of it all of our achievements are governed by the intensity of the desire and the time we allocate to it.
In fact a great personal development idea is to regularly assess the quality of your activities by asking the following question: "Am I doing the most productive thing at this moment?"
Once you have the answer to this question you can then decide whether you are allocating your time effectively towards activities that are building your knowledge as well as your self esteem and positive attitude.
Importantly, the learning process never stops unless you decide that it should. So it is also important to ensure that you have only a positive learning mindset and those statements such as "I am too old to learn this" or one of my all time non favourites "You can't teach an old dog new tricks".
In actuality, you can teach any dog new tricks providing you have the right reward system in place and despite our egos humans are essentially no different.
Abraham Maslow identified learning and the gaining of knowledge as one of the essential human needs that feeds our motivation and self-esteem.
So what "new tricks" have you learnt lately?
